Jason Isbell at the Ryman

Mere and I saw Jason Isbell this week during his Ryman residency, and the experience was pure magic. I mean, I expected it would be, but it was probably even better than I’d hoped. He played “Last of My Kind,” and I got a little teary. Well, maybe a lot. Haha. I know it’s a relatively popular song at his shows, but this is the third time I’ve seen him, and it was the first time he’s sang it. I sometimes think about how short life is and how we have these pieces of art that kind of fit into it perfectly and never really leave. This song is one of those pieces of art for me.

“Cover Me Up” was obviously great as was “If We Were Vampires.” “Different Days” and “Traveling Alone” were also highlights.

The Ryman is a beautiful venue. I’m lucky to be so close to it and to be able to go whenever I want really.

Anyhow, great, great show!
