A Break as 2022 Begins

2021 was rough. Very, if I’m being honest. There’ve been a lot of hardships surrounding me this year. It’s difficult to see people you care about suffer. I’m hopeful that 2022 will bring more comfort and peace for all of us.

Mere and I took a little (and much needed) break to the beach to reflect before the new year begins. This is my favorite place because there is never anyone around when/where we go. Seriously, it’s basically us and a few dozen seagulls. It was very nice to just be away for a few days.

Listening to the waves and feeling the cool sand and smelling the salt, there’s comfort in those things for me.

I’m excited for 2022. It’s going to be a big year for me. I will graduate with my MFA in May. With that, I have to finish a thesis (a big chunk of a second story collection), and I also am writing a capstone paper, which is essentially an extended paper about a craft element. I have a lot of reading to do to get it finished. I’m excited and anxious and all of those things.

So, here’s to 2022. May it be a year full of empathy, love, comfort, and strength. May it be better than the two years that have come before it. May it be a time for us to soak up and enjoy life.
