Brief Update on My New Book: It's Finished!
Readers,
I am very excited to announce that I’ve finished my new short story collection, which is titled Crocodile Tears Didn’t Cause the Flood! This book is a little weirder than my debut, and it’s also a tighter, (slightly) slimmer book. I think it’s a strong collection, but I am probably a little biased. Haha.
With these stories, I experiment with form quite a bit. There is a story in the shape of a manual. There is a gameplay story. There is one that presents itself as a state test. There are several other forms, too—and flash, lots of flash.
The themes here are my usual. I’m looking at loss, grief, hope, and love.
It’s officially out on submission, so hopefully it’ll be picked up in the coming weeks and months.
While I’m providing a book update, I’ll say that I’m now-gulp-working on a novel. I never ever thought I’d seriously complete a novel, but I am making good progress. AND… the book is actually working so far. I don’t want to reveal too much yet, but it’s southern and speculative.
The semester has been great. Classes are going well, and I’ve been able to attend a few conferences. I even presented a paper on Marcel the Shell with Shoes On at one.
Mere and I have several trips in the next few months, so we are looking forward to the year and all that it brings.
I’ll continue my blog leave until I have a sold book to report. This novel will keep me busy in the meantime.
Wishes for love and light to you all,
B. Sides
