A Busy Week
I don’t know that this week has been the busiest of my life, but it’s definitely been among the most packed.
I returned from my very first experience with the Tennessee Young Writers’ Workshop at ETSU. This was my debut week teaching there, and it was enjoyable in a lot of ways. I loved meeting and getting to know the other faculty. I also was very much inspired by all of the love of the written word. These young writers love words—stories, poems, all of it. It was nice to live in that energy for a few days. It was also cool to see so many of my former students, who I’ve known and taught for years, at the Workshop.
Oh, and ETSU has a beautiful campus. Truly. Lots and lots of trees (and squirrels).
Once I returned from Johnson City, I got my official Calhoun schedule, which makes that new adventure beginning in August seem all the more real. And honestly, my schedule couldn’t be better if I would’ve made it myself.
One of my very favorite areas to teach is intro and first-year writing. There’s so much nervousness and excitement and just general anticipation for what’s to come in these classrooms—at least in my experience. I tend to do well teaching in that kind of space.
I’ll be on the Huntsville campus, and all of my classes are in person. Yep, it’s a great schedule, and I’m excited about it. I’m very much looking forward to working with all the new college students getting started on their academic journeys.
I get to see my office soon, so I’m looking forward to that.
While I was at ETSU, we officially sold our house. I’ve done a lot of packing since being back in town.
As I said, it’s been a busy week. Not too many more to go before the semester begins. Off I go to pack more boxes and to get ready for the big move…
