I've Now Explored the Marvel Universe

I was planning to watch WandaVision because it looks extremely strange, but my wife informed me that the series is a part of the larger Marvel Universe, which I knew very little about. I’d seen a few of the movies early on, but action movies aren’t really my thing, generally speaking.

Anyhow, I was really wanting to watch the series, so we agreed to watch all of the Marvel movies (and in order) so we’d be ready to dive into the new, very weird-looking show.

After several weeks of nightly viewings, here’s my official ranking of all of the Marvel films:

Guardians of the Galaxy

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2

Black Panther

Avengers: Infinity War

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain Marvel

Thor: Ragnarok

Avengers: Endgame

Captain America: The First Avenger

Ant-Man and The Wasp

Iron Man 3

The Avengers

The Incredible Hulk

Doctor Strange

Thor

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Iron Man

Thor: The Dark World

Captain America: Civil War

Ant Man

Iron Man 2

As a whole, I think they are good, interesting forms of escapism, and I can see why people enjoy them. I tended, as you can see, to like the lighter ones best. Or the sadder ones. I really liked the Guardians and Spider-Man films. The Infinity War Avengers’ movie was the most surprising to me. And it reminded me of The Leftovers sort of. (To be fair, a lot of things remind me of The Leftovers because that show is probably my favorite of all time. I think about it a strange amount, really.) I was also quite surprised with the most recent Thor film. The first two didn’t do much for me, but this last one, with its light, goofy tone and direction worked really well for the story. Same with Ant Man and The Wasp. I might’ve fallen asleep for a while in the first one, but the second one was really good.

Rocket is the best Avenger. No competition in my mind. Captain Marvel is the most powerful. They are all well casted.

Like I said, I largely enjoyed them and was glad to lose myself in them for several hours.

Now, I think I’ll rewatch The Leftovers. Again.
